John Keown
C-PET Senior Fellow
John Keown, D.Phil., holds the Rose F. Kennedy Chair of Christian Ethics at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He holds degrees in law from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate from the University of Oxford. He has taught medical law at the University of Leicester, law and ethics of medicine as a Senior Lecturer at Cambridge, and was a Senior Research Fellow at Churchill College.
He has been significantly involved in health care ethics forums and has authored or edited books and law review articles. His research has been cited widely, in particular by the U.S. Supreme Court (in its decision on physician-assisted suicide), by the English Court of Appeal (in the conjoined twins case, 2000), and by the House of Lords Select Committee on Medical Ethics.
