C-PET'S MISSION

C-PET's focus is on the implications of the key emerging technologies of the 21st century - bringing together investors, the risk community, NGOs from left and right, experts in science and technology, and policymakers for an ongoing roundtable conversation about technology, human society, and the future.

C-PET's recent events in Washington, DC, have included our Presidential Election Forum at the National Press Club, and Consultation on the Future of the Internet hosted by TechAmerica.

C-PET's main focus is on the US policy debate. Through its partner the Global Forum on Emerging Technologies it is taking international initiatives such as the Transatlantic Dialogue on Emerging Technologies (funded by the Wellcome Trust and co-sponsored with US and European universities).

C-PET's mission is to stimulate broad nonpartisan dialogue, and the development of policy proposals, on emerging technologies and their social, ethical, and legal implications.

Nigel Cameron"The transformative impacts of emerging technologies raise vast issues of policy across every area, as we forge ahead into an innovative future. Risk, technology, and human values are all inter-related, and demand a far-sighted policy discussion that we have barely begun. C-PET's task is to drive this conversation."

Jonathan Moreno"Americans have always defined themselves in terms of the future. It is therefore astonishing that there is no policy institute on emerging technologies in the nation's capital, one that cuts across philosophical lines. C-PET addresses that absence in our national conversation."
