Michele Mekel

Michele Mekel, J.D., M.B.A., M.H.A. is visiting Associate Professor at Drake University Law School, where she focuses on health care law and bioethics. She is also a Fellow with the Institute on Biotechnology and the Human Future (IBHF), at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Previously, she served as IBHF's Executive Director. She has also been a Fulbright Fellow at Queen's University Centre for Health Services and Policy Research in Canada, where she conducted a comparative study of Canadian and U.S. academic-affiliated health policy research centers. As an attorney licensed in Illinois and Missouri, Mekel worked as a law clerk for the Missouri Supreme Court. In addition, her experience in health care administration includes acting as the compliance officer and corporate planner for an HMO, and as a director of the Missouri Hospital Association. Her academic portfolio contains a legal, nanotechnology-related, health-related, and insurance-related publications and presentations. Mekel is also an associate editor for Nanotechnology Law & Business, and a board member of the Converging Technologies Bar Association.

Mekel is a journalism graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she also earned graduate degrees in law, health administration, and business. During law school, she served as editor-in-chief of the Missouri Law Review.
