As the presidential debates and the opening salvo of primary votes excite and depress us in varying proportions, we come back to the question of the questions.
It’s probably fair to say that the various moderators’ question choices reflect some combination of what the press at large has determined are the hot issues, and those issues on which the candidates wish to comment. Whether the curated public sentiment shaping the former, and the narrow political savvy that determines the latter, reflect the long-term interests of the United States and its citizens is yet another question.
