Keynote speech of Ambassador Anthony L Gardner at The 7th Annual Internet of Things European Summit.

Gardner official photo_600

Thank you for the introduction. I am pleased to be here because the topic of this conference is of fundamental importance to the future of our economies in Europe and the United States; and it also represents a major opportunity for transatlantic collaboration. The scale of the opportunities and challenges related to the Internet of Things literally makes everything else on the US-EU agenda seem secondary.

Reliance on sensor data to optimize the operation of devices has long been commonplace in industry...

Is the Internet Finally Coming of Age?

Is the Internet Finally Coming of Age?

Nigel M. de S. Cameron

Getting our bearings in the sea of Moore’s Law hype is not simply a continuing challenge to policy leaders (as well as investors), but perhaps their major challenge. Since, like it or not (and this has been the drum-beat of C-PET’s message since our launch in 2007), the digital revolution and accompanying scientific and technological developments have set the stage for every single policy decision of the 21st Century...

Help Fund C-PET

Help Fund C-PET!

Think tanks – non-profit policy institutes – are funded in various ways.

In Washington, we know all about following the money! Partisan or ideological organizations get partisan, political funding. Non-partisan set-ups are often funded by corporate donors, and tend to come up with the kind of conclusions those corporations favor. Details here. As announced last week, we are already planning round two of this discussion to take place in Brussels, Belgium on May 19. I look forward to seeing some of you there.

Below are my concluding remarks.

Your thoughts?

Nigel Cameron

————–

Let me offer three observations.

1. This question is really big.

One way to capture the significance of the Internet of Things is to see it as the bolting together of the old economy and the new – plainly, with enormous potential b...

The World in 100 Years

The World in 100 Years

Nigel M. de S. Cameron

I was recently asked to address a remarkable conference hosted by the  Champalimaud Foundation Centre for the Unknown in Portugal, where the theme was the question: What will the world be like in 100 years’ time? The conference included several Nobel laureates and was led by former President Cardoso of Brazil. These are my remarks. They were entitled, “The Human Question One Hundred Years Off.”
Video.
My thanks to the organizers of this very special event, and in particular Leonore Beleza and President Cardoso. The invitation from President Cardoso included a beguiling reference to the fact that a child born today may well be alive in one hundred years’ time...
